FestivALT is FestivALL's free alternative music concert that began in 2014. The first concert was held at Appalachian Power Park and featured the popular rock band Drive-By Truckers, folk group Carolina Chocolate Drops led by Rhiannon Giddens, Hoots & Hellmouth and Mandolin Orange. The concert aimed to bring a younger crowd into the FestivALL mix, and it exceeded expectations in its first year.
In year two, The Steel Wheels and Parker Millsap were on board for the concert's new location at Haddad Riverfront Park. A heavy down pour that day unfortunately cancelled the outdoor concert, however fans who stuck around got an impromptu treat when both groups decided to put on an acoutic set inside the lobby of Four Points by Sheraton totally up close and unplugged.
That was definitely a West Virginia Day to remember!
In 2016, FestivALT became part of the first FestivALL Preview Memorial Day weekend on Saturday, following Taste-of-ALL. Jam-grass king Keller Williams and Lindsay Lou and the Flatbellys put on an energetic performance as the sun set set over the Kanawha river, making for a picturesque evening filled with great tunes and a packed crowd.
This year, the event will return to Haddad Riverfront Park on May 27. The 2017 lineup and more details TBA.
