Smoke on the Water Chili Cookoff, Virtual-style!

Stay tuned to more info on how to cook, help judge or just watch the fun on June 20! We will feature some award winning cooks from across the US and they will provide tips, tricks and more! All proceeds will benefit HospiceCare!

Plus – kick back and listen to the Chili Cookoff bands for 2020! The premiere of 4 local bands at-home sets will start at NOON on the FestivALL YouTube channel.

From the Smoke on the Water Chili Cookoff Planning Committee:
At a time when we could all use some positive, the Smoke on the Water Chili Cookoff has decided to host a virtual contest featuring fantastic cooks showcasing their skills while raising and funds and awareness for HospiceCare.
On June 20 (West Virginia Day), anyone will be able to enter the organization’s 2020 Virtual Chili Cook-Off and a chance to win $250! The second and third place winners will be awarded $150 and $100 respectively.
This will also be a fundraiser for HospiceCare – who is our charity partner. They will be able to not only use this virtual platform to raise money, but to also educate and spread awareness of HospiceCare and its programs.
What do you have to do to compete in this contest? First, GET REGISTERED! Email your name, address, and what kind of chili you will be cooking to [email protected]
Second, do what you do best– cook great chili and while doing it take some photos and/or video of you and your team cooking with your theme proudly displayed. This contest is ALL about presentation and fun!
The cook-off will begin Saturday, June 20 at noon (EDT) and the cook(s) will have until 4:00 p.m. (EDT) to finish their dish. At 4:00 pm all cooks will be asked to “Dish It Up” and present their chili for our virtual audience. Fun it up! Include any garnishes, special bowls, etc. that you want to make your chili unique.
Anyone may assist, but it is the responsibility of the head cook to post the photos and/or videos on his or her personal social media pages using the appropriate hashtag.
All cooks with their collective likes, comments and shares on their social media post(s) will be considered and will be part of the scoring. We will also be basing our criteria on showmanship and chili presentation. That criteria will be sent to all registered cooks. We will also have awards for Overall Best Showmanship, Overall Best Presentation, Overall Best West By God Virginia Cook, and Outstanding Young Cook for those under the age of 18. Each will win $50 and bragging rights!
Members should post their photos and videos to social media before the 4:00 p.m. deadline on June 20. Each post will have until June 21 at midnight to collect as many likes, comments and shares as possible. The winner will be announced on June 21 on the Smoke on the Water Facebook page.
It is important to remember in a virtual cook-off, your social media post(s) must be set to “public” to be considered. Any private post using #SOTWVirtual will not be visible to us, so it will be ineligible for the contest. (So please make sure to check your privacy settings prior to posting!)
