FestivALL Charleston Celebrates 12th Year with STS Top 20 Event Award
Charleston, WV—West Virginia’s state capital is gearing up for the 12th FestivALL Charleston, a multi-day, multi-venue festival that celebrates all of the arts, and this year it comes with a brand new award. The Southeast Tourism Society has named FestivALL a Top 20 Festival & Event winner for June 2016.
In celebration of its 12th year, FestivALL will include a new preview on Memorial Day weekend and will expand to 12 days for its main event in June.
“This award is quite an honor for FestivALL and recognizes that our event has grown beyond appealing just to Charleston and the region,” said FestivALL executive director Brittany Javins. "It's quite fitting, then, that we have expanded FestivALL 2016 to include a special preview on Memorial Day Weekend as well as the twelve days for our 12th year."
The May preview will include a longstanding Charleston tradition, Taste-of-ALL, and Festiv-ALT, an alternative music concert that celebrates its third year in 2016. This weekend edition of FestivALL will kick off with the opening night of Charleston’s free summer concert series, Live on the Levee.
Taste-of-ALL will find a new home at Four Points by Sheraton on the city’s riverfront as an indoor/outdoor event on May 28, followed by Festiv-ALT that evening at Haddad Riverfront Park.
Javins stated, "Memorial Day weekend offers especially good timing for the preview, because Live on the Levee traditionally kicks off that weekend and the state Capitol grounds are busy with the annual traditional music and craft celebration called the Vandalia Gathering. It's a great time for people to visit our capital city."
In 2016, FestivALL will continue to live up to its slogan, “A City Becomes a Work of Art,” while extending to 12 days. It will include over 130 events, with two weekends filled with main events, midweek dance, theater and art shows, and a Thursday night Mayor's Concert featuring the Temptations and the Four tops in partnership with the Clay Center, the city's premier performance hall.
“FestivALL offers an incredible variety of entertainment, from an intimate art exhibit that may draw a few dozen participants to a concert that draws thousands. Many of the events are family-friendly and many also are free or of nominal cost.”
Charleston's convenient location along the Kanawha River near interstates 64, 77, and 79 make it easy to reach and simple to navigate. The River Queen tour boat will offer scenic tours of the river June 22-25 and serve as a river taxi on June 24 and 25, shuttling FestivALL attendees between downtown events and those across the river at the University of Charleston.
Major events of FestivALL include Blues, Craft Brews & BBQ, Wine & All That Jazz, a live production of National Public Radio's Mountain Stage, the Capitol Street Art Fair and Children's Art Fair, a Charleston Light Opera Guild performance, Smoke on the Water Chili Cookoff, the Dance Gala, and much more.
