    West Virginia Book Festival

    The West Virginia Book Festival is a free annual event for book lovers of all ages.

    Featuring programs by local and international bestselling authors such as Joy Callaway, Gregg Hurwitz, Sadeqa Johnson, Gene Luen Yang, and Mia Manansala. In addition to this, enjoy the Used Book Sale and a Festival Marketplace.

    An Evening with the Poets

    October 18, 6pm
    Location: Taylor Books Annex Gallery, 226 Capitol St.

    Marc Harshman presents a night of poetry at Taylor Books with Steve Scafidi and youth poet from Poetry Out Loud, Willow Peyton. Joining them will be Youth Poet Laureate representatives, Caterina Occhione and Mariam Hamdan. 

    This event is free and open to the public.

    About Steve Scafidi 

    Steve Scafidi is the author of Sparks from a Nine-Pound Hammer (Louisiana State University Press, 2001), For Love of Common Words (LSU 2006), The Cabinetmaker’s Window (LSU 2014), To the Bramble and the Briar (University of Arkansas Press, 2014) and a chapbook Songs for the Carry-On (Q Avenue Press, 2013). He has won the Larry Levis Reading Prize, the James Boatwright Prize and the Miller Williams Prize. His poems have appeared in numerous journals and anthologies, and he has taught at several universities including, most recently, in the Writing Seminars at Johns Hopkins University. He works as a cabinetmaker and lives with his family in Summit Point, West Virginia.

    Close out the final day and final hours of FestivFALL with a free yoga class as the sunsets over the Kanawha River. 

     

    Instructor: Randy Boyd

    Randy is one of West Virginia’s most highly trained yoga teachers. He completed a 200 hour teacher training with Todd Norian in the Anusara school of Yoga in 2007. In 2012, he completed his first 500 hour Hatha Yoga Teacher Training through the Anusara method. In 2016 he completed an advanced certification in the Ashaya Yoga Advanced 300 hour Teacher Training.

    A City Becomes a Work of Art
    FestivALL


    A city-wide, multi-arts festival in Charleston, WV showcasing a mix of music, theater, dance, visual art, and more each June. Nestled in the heart of Appalachia, over 100 FestivALL events will take place in more than 50 locations across the city of Charleston, ranging from outdoor spaces to theaters to intimate galleries and event spaces. Join the capital city community in celebrating ALL of the arts, performed by local, national, and international talent.

    FestivALL directly produces some events, co-produces some events and presents some events that are produced by other individuals and organizations.

    Public Art Bike Tour

    Sam Nygaard is back and providing another special tour of Charleston’s works of art. Bring your bike and learn about the public works displayed in our city.

    The tour will start at the Lee St. Triangle. Meet ready to ride with your helmet!

    Tuesday, October 15 at 6pm. 

  • Downtown ArtWalk

    Stroll downtown Charleston, WV and visit unique businesses, featuring area artists showcasing their diverse talents! Enjoy street performers, live music, musical easels, and more as you move through the venues!

    Participating shops are located along Quarrier, Capitol, Lee, Summers and Hale streets in Downtown Charleston and feature a variety of art and goods – from paintings and sculptures to photography and music. Attendees can stroll along at their own pace, dip in and out of stores and stop off along the way for a bite to eat at a downtown restaurant.

    Downtown Charleston ArtWalk is a free, self-guided walking tour of Charleston’s shops, galleries and businesses featuring regional art, performances, crafts, fashion, antiques and much more. Typically held the third Thursday of each month, participating shops and organizations extend their hours for browsing, shopping and mingling.

    Join the National Parks Conservation Association on a public art adventure starting with a 30-minute guided walking tour inside of the WV State Capitol Building and followed by a 1-hour guided bike tour exploring the statutes and monuments on the Capitol Complex Grounds.

    The walking tour meets at 3pm in front of the WV Coal Miner Statue.

    Just want to join the bike tour? Meet at the WV Coal Miner Statue at 5pm, ride begins at 5:30pm.
