The West Virginia Book Festival is an annual event for book lovers of all ages and! Featuring programs by local and international bestselling authors, a Used Book Sale, and a Festival Marketplace, it takes place at the Charleston Coliseum & Convention Center in downtown Charleston, West Virginia.

“Why We Stayed” is a theatrical production by the Contemporary Youth Arts Company (CYAC) that explores the complex reasons people remain in abusive relationships, focusing on the often-ignored struggles of “forgotten victims” of domestic violence. The play portrays the daily realities of survival for diverse characters—from mothers and police officers to convicts and neighbors—highlighting the societal barriers, personal struggles, and emotional entrapments that prevent people from leaving abusive situations. The production serves as a fundraising event for the YWCA’s Resolve Family Abuse Program, aiming to give voice to survivors and foster understanding of these difficult issues.

WVSDT’s art exhibit, taking place in the Kanawha County Public Library, is being held in conjunction with Youth Justice Action Month (YJAM). YJAM is an annual campaign where advocates unite to organize digital and in-person events to raise awareness and inspire action for young people impacted by the justice system.
This exhibit will feature student artwork centered around the reflection of growth and transformation that is witnessed in youth every day.
